The Auto Placement<\/em> recipe in InTime now supports Quartus Prime Pro Edition (in addition to Quartus-II and Quartus Prime Std Edition). Recall from Automatic placement adjustments in Quartus<\/a>\u00a0that the\u00a0Auto Placement<\/em> recipe analyses the locations of failing timing paths, and re-locates them based on what the tool learns about the design\u2019s characteristics, without changing any source code.<\/p>\n

Figure below shows the chip view of the implemented design in Quartus Prime Pro edition, before and after Auto Placement<\/em>:

\nTo use Auto Placement for a Quartus Prime Pro Edition project:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Open your project in InTime.<\/li>\n
  2. From the Recipe dropdown, click and select the Auto Placement<\/em>\u00a0recipe.\"Intime_autopl_recipe\"<\/li>\n
  3. Specify the number of results you want in the \"Runs per Round\" flow property (10 in this example).
    \n\"property_runs_per_round\"<\/li>\n
  4. Click \"Start Recipe\" to start running.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Here is an example of a Quartus Prime Pro Edition's design ran using Auto Placement<\/em>.<\/p>\n

    \"Intime_autopl_tns_result_qpp\"<\/p>\n

    This design was first compiled using the\u00a0InTime Default<\/em> recipe, followed by the Auto Placement<\/em> recipe (you may combine the\u00a0Auto Placement<\/em> recipe with other recipes as well). The first round runs InTime Default<\/em> to find the optimised set of compiler settings for timing performance while the second round further optimises timing using Auto Placement<\/em> based on the optimal compiler settings found in the first round.<\/p>\n

    Notice that the first round's best Total Negative Slack(TNS) is -36.063ns while the second round\u2019s best TNS is\u00a0-31.923ns. This shows an improvement of 4.14ns in the TNS after using Auto Placement<\/em>.<\/p>\n

    It is important to take note that not all results generated via the\u00a0Auto Placement<\/em> recipe will be better, but it is helping the designer do\u00a0a whole lot of work without affecting the design's functionality \u2014 certainly something worth trying<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
