For previous year's results, please click <a href=\"https:\/\/support.plunify.com\/en\/2017\/05\/31\/xilinx-fpga-comparison\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The methods are the same as before. We use a modified version of the Vivado example \u201cCPU\u201d design and the example design\u00a0 \"eight_bit_uc\" that comes with InTime.\u00a0The design\u2019s constraints were modified to make it fail timing.<\/p>\n<p>Each experiment consists of 150 compilations per Vivado version. By default, InTime learns from past results and tweaks settings automatically. So for these tests, we used the exact same settings for each Vivado version.<\/p>\n<h2>Experiment 1: \"Eight_bit_uc\" design<\/h2>\n<p>Here are the results. If we refer to the statistics,<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>2018.3 has 61 better TNS results in 150. That is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>40.6%<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li>2018.3 has 89 better WNS results in 150. That is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>59.3%<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li>The best TNS goes to 2017.4 with just 1 ns difference (-52.932 versus\u00a0-49.997)<\/li>\n<li>The best WNS goes to 2017.4 with 70 ps difference.\u00a0 (-0.67 versus\u00a0-0.6)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Experiment 2: \"CPU\" design<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26203\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/support.plunify.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/04\/TNS-CPU2.png?resize=900%2C488&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"488\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/support.plunify.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/04\/TNS-CPU2.png?w=900&amp;ssl=1 900w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/support.plunify.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/04\/TNS-CPU2.png?resize=300%2C163&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/support.plunify.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/04\/TNS-CPU2.png?resize=768%2C416&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26204\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/support.plunify.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/04\/WNS-CPU2.png?resize=900%2C504&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"504\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/support.plunify.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/04\/WNS-CPU2.png?w=900&amp;ssl=1 900w, https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/support.plunify.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/04\/WNS-CPU2.png?resize=300%2C168&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/support.plunify.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/04\/WNS-CPU2.png?resize=768%2C430&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For this design, there are only 133 results as 17 builds errored out.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>2018.3 has 54 better TNS AND WNS results in 133. That is exactly the same as the previous design -\u00a0\u00a0<strong>40.6%\u00a0<\/strong> (coincidence?<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">)<\/span><\/li>\n<li>The best TNS goes to 2017.4 with just 5 ns difference (-46.6 versus\u00a0-52.786)<\/li>\n<li>For WNS, the result is a tie.\u00a0 The best for both versions is -1.227.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>It seems like on the whole, 2017.4 appears to have an edge for the TNS in the test designs. But for WNS, 2018.3 seems to be better.
